Back in the sixties, Marshall McLuhan, the Canadian philosopher was the one who made the term “global village” popular. He phrases it referring to the effects of the global mass media. That’s was even before the digital communication and the internet.

Localization is a major issue when it comes to SEO (Global SEO) and online marketing. Depending only on translation’s software is not enough at all as many words got different meaning when it connects with different words. Many languages have got different.

In American English, cookies means Biscuits, while in British English, Biscuits means Biscuits. Pants are used in American English, while British use Trousers; even the spelling is not the same for same words, like color and color. This is in the same language; Dinner is “the evening meal,” in France, but in French-speaking Switzerland and Belgium it got different meaning; “lunch”.

The same in Arabic language, its different  colloquial expressions between the Arabic countries. The Middle East region is divided to different local languages, which are all based on the main classical Arabic. In Arabic Language, its official classical written Language is the same for the whole Arabs, but its local expressions are different. For example, “Shamal” in directions, means Left in Sudanese and Egyptian language, while it means North in the rest Arabic countries.  Take, for example, the word for “mobile phone”. In Kuwait, this is called 'Naqqal' (literally “mobile”), whereas in Saudi, it's referred to as 'Jawwal' (literally “roaming”), and in Sudan and Egypt its referred to as "mobile".
